Be inspired to cycle

Posted by admin on 10th August 2012

With the recent successes of Team GB cyclists, now is a good time to get on your bike and discover the joys of cycling.

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative share their passion for cycling and explain why we should all be trying it….

At Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative, we believe that the bicycle is the ultimate green machine.

A 19th Century invention that has brilliantly adapted itself for the post-industrial 21st Century, the bicycle remains today's most efficient means of urban transport for most people in most circumstances.

On a bicycle you can comfortably cover 4 to 5 times the distance you can on foot. A bike makes the average 3 to 4-mile commute, a scoot.

Its slim-line shape makes the bicycle uniquely manoeuvrable. A bike is the perfect vehicle for skirting road congestion.

In most city situations, a bicycle is the quickest way to get from A to B. Spared the hassle of hold-ups and searching for parking spaces, cycling is comparatively frustration free, making it the most fun way to get around, most of the time

Once you get into everyday cycling, you discover that turning the pedal cranks has an enduring ability to kick-start the day ahead.

Cycling doesn't just save you time on your travels. It also rewards you with 'free fitness miles'. That's significant because exercising as you go about your daily business tends to be more sustainable than finding time in your busy schedule to, for instance, visit the gym.

Petrol stations are another institution you can visit less regularly when you get into regular cycling. Saving on petrol doesn't just make you around £1,000 per annum richer. Reducing our personal fossil fuel consumption is the single biggest contribution the majority of us can make towards a greener Scotland.

Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op is committed to making it as easy as possible for individuals to make this life-enhancing change by offering a fantastic range of bicycles and cycle equipment, backed up with friendly know-how and exceptional service.

If the thought of servicing your own bike puts you off, don't worry. We'll do it for you. If you want to learn how to do it yourself, the Bike Co-op has been running popular cycle maintenance classes for over 30 years. If you want to get into cycling for minimal outlay, encourage your employer to consider our long-established Bike to Work Scheme.

It is in our workers' co-operative ethos DNA to offer the same level of service to every cyclist or cyclist to be. Whether you are a man or a woman, an adult or a child, a mountain biker or a road cyclist, a commuter or a leisure cyclist, it is our aim that you will find all the bikes and cycle equipment you could ever require at our online store.
